Keeping Your Blog Alive

Some of you have been posting on your blogs and using them regularly. I love that! I would like to propose that we all post every two weeks. I will continue to assign topics but if there is no topic then what you post about is up to you. By doing this it will keep your blogs fresh and you will be required to process what is happening for you in the studio on a regular basis. We can discuss this as a class before it becomes a requirement. I look forward to your thoughts.

  2. I think its a good idea. Last year I felt like I constantly forgot about my blog, and I think this way we will all get more accustomed to updating them and become more comfortable with blogger.

  3. I'm still not sold on the purpose of the blog. I feel like we communicate better in class and during critiques and we show each other cool art things online just in class. But I feel like my blog is only being checked by you for the purpose of a grade. Maybe more frequent posting will encourage sharing but I'm not sure.

    1. Because of all the difficulty new bloggers had this year we have not had the regular blogging that I have assigned in the past (it used to be one mentor post every week). Part of the interaction comes from following everyone in the class (including me) and checking and updating your own blog. The point of blogging is to do the assignments I give but also to understand what it is like to keep a blog interesting and useful. If you don't "buy in" to the use of it, it will only be a burden. It is part of my curriculum to encourage thinking both creative and analytical and in my experience students who embrace blogging have a more valuable experience of the class as a whole. You should check out some of the blogs your classmates are keeping (specifically those who have been doing it for a year or more.

  5. I like this idea. I think having to constantly update will help us to be more comfortable with it and i think the blogs are a great place for us to reflect on our own work

  9. I'm excited for this! It will be good to really learn how to use blogger. I liked writing about the water wigs and figuring out how to move the picture over and all that. It will be good to get some ideas out there for everyone to see and help out with!

  10. I miss blogging about mentors and cool discoveries and having to reflect upon my progress, or lack thereof, in the studio, so this makes me really happy! I think that the written reflections I wrote last year really helped me to process my art, my growth as an artist, and where I wanted to go with things. I am looking forward to continuing these kind of reflections and thinking so I can be more deliberate with my art.

  11. I'm really bad at remembering to post about my blog, which is strange because when I am excited about a painting I'll tell everyone about it. I don't think the blog post every two weeks is a bad idea, I'll just have to try harder to remember to do the assignment. My blog is also like a public journal, and it's interesting to see what my original intentions are in a project vs, what I actually did.

  12. I won't really care either if I have to or not, but I would rather not to be 'required' to post every two week. I don't think it is a bad idea, but I think blog was about more of out of class communication.
